A professor was today remanded for six days on suspicion of soliciting RM100,000 in bribes.

The professor, who is also a general manager of a research institute, was arrested by the MACC yesterday.

The arrest happened after the 54-year-old presented himself at the Selangor MACC headquarters in Shah Alam for questioning.

Selangor MACC director Alias Salim confirmed the arrest.

The remand order was granted by Shah Alam magistrate Syajaratudur Abdul Rahman.

The suspect was believed to have solicited and received bribes fronted as "consultation services" for the purchase of land.

The land was intended for development by the organisation where the professor works.
