COVID-19 | Meru assemblyperson Mohd Fakhrulrazi Mokhtar has called for Top Glove's factories located along Jalan Teratai in Meru, Klang to be temporarily closed as a Covid-19 cluster linked to its workers there nears 1,500 cases.
"Considering that the Jalan Teratai cluster is getting worse and is causing concern to Meru folks and local workers at Top Glove, I appeal to the government to temporarily shut all of Top Glove's factories (in Meru).
"Safety should take precedence over profits," he said in a Facebook post.
The Teratai cluster yesterday reported 504 new cases with 502 in Selangor and two in Kuala Lumpur.
This contributed to the spike of cases in Selangor which recorded a total of 604 cases yesterday.
The latest total for the Teratai cluster is 1,457 cases.
It is also the third-largest active Covid-19 cluster in the country after the Tembok cluster and Kepayan Prison cluster, both of which involved prisons.
As the virus spreads, it is unclear if all those infected in the Teratai cluster were Top Glove workers.
The glove maker has not revealed how many cases in the Teratai cluster are workers from its factories.
Previously, the workers there expressed fear that they may catch the virus at the factories.
However, Top Glove assured that it had created a safe working environment. - Mkini
