MCA president Wee Ka Siong today insisted that the federal government will allocate RM40 million to Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) next year.
He said critics such as DAP MPs should quiz the finance minister and Higher Education Ministry in Parliament for details.
In a post on his Facebook page today, Wee said that when Pakatan Harapan was in power, some allocation for TAR UC did not appear on budget documents.
"In fact, RM30 million of the alleged RM40 million allocation for TAR UC was announced by Lim Guan Eng during the Tanjung Piai by-election in 2019 while another RM10 million was announced after Harapan had lost in the by-election.
"So since when did this RM40 million allocation appeared in the budget in black and white (when Harapan was in power)?" asked Wee.
According to the Federal Expenditure 2021 document, TAR UC was set to receive RM2 million next year.
TAR UC regularly received around RM5 million in federal funding during the previous BN administrations.
This was slashed to RM1 million for 2020 by the Harapan administration in a bid to pressure MCA to cede control of the institution.
At the time, then finance minister Lim said the Harapan government had to be fair and could not use federal funding for a party-controlled institution.
However, at the time, Wee said Lim was victimising the Chinese community. - Mkini
