The Transport Ministry is investigating the air crash in Taman Melawati that happened this morning and will issue a full report of their findings to the government.
According to minister Wee Ka Siong, the technical investigation was initiated by the ministry's Air Accident Investigation Bureau, which is required to prepare an initial report within 30 days of the incident.
"The main objective of the investigation is to determine the circumstances and cause of the accident with an aim to safeguard lives and prevent future accidents.
"In this regard, the investigation to be initiated is not to apportion blame nor liability," Wee said in a media statement.
He added that the full report would include recommendations for improvements in the country's civil aviation industry.
In the incident that occurred just before noon today, two helicopters collided mid-air above Taman Melawati, Selangor and caused the deaths of two of the four victims.
Wee (photo) said the helicopters were involved in a flight training session when the crash happened.
"A mid-air collision occurred involving both helicopters, after which, one crash-landed while the other successfully made an emergency landing in a field adjacent to SJKT Taman Melawati.
"The Kuala Lumpur Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre had subsequently been activated to provide all necessary rescue coordination efforts," he said. - Mkini
