Umany president to be questioned over controversial Facebook post on King

The leader of a Universiti Malaya student body will be giving his statement to the police over a controversial Facebook post made by the group.

PETALING JAYA: The president of a student body which sparked controversy over a Facebook post on the King will be questioned by police tomorrow.

Universiti Malaya Association of New Youth (Umany) president Yap Wen Qing will give his statement at the Kajang police station at 2pm tomorrow.

In a text message sent to the media, Umany said Yap will be accompanied by a human rights lawyer.

Umany last night said it was standing by the Facebook post it had originally put up last Friday before pulling it down shortly after. The post was republished last night.

They have also threatened to haul Universiti Malaya (UM) to court if the institution took action against them over their statement.

On Sunday, UM said it was investigating the article entitled “Yang Di-Pertuan Agong should not intervene in national affairs”.

The student body has since clarified that it respected the constitutional monarchy of Malaysia and claimed that their post had been “severely distorted and discredited by the media”. - FMT
