Ku Li won't face disciplinary committee over joint presser with Dr M - source

Umno advisory board chairperson Tengku Razaleigh Hazmah will not be called to the party’s disciplinary committee for cooperating with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to reject the Budget 2021 proposal.

According to a party source, this is because Budget 2021 has been passed by the Dewan Rakyat.

However, the source said there are some in the party who want Tengku Razaleigh to be referred to the disciplinary committee.

“So far, Umno will not be referring Ku Li to the party’s disciplinary committee for this cooperation with Mahathir.

“Although there are those who want him to face the disciplinary committee, we feel there is no need to do so,” the source told Malaysiakini, referring to Tengku Razaleigh by his moniker.

On Monday, Tengku Razaleigh held a joint press conference with Mahathir, at which the former prime minister said the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government may fall the next day when the budget comes to its final vote.

The claim was followed by a call by Pakatan Harapan for all MPs to reject the budget proposal.

Tengku Razaleigh, meanwhile, had reiterated that he does not recognise the PN government and its prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, and would not vote on the budget.

The Gua Musang MP previously urged for Mahathir’s no-confidence motion against Muhyiddin to be debated in Parliament.

Previously, when asked about the possibility of facing disciplinary action for his move, Tengku Razaleigh asserted that he is free to decide as an MP.

On that matter, the source said Umno regards Tengku Razaleigh to have acted in his personal capacity as an MP.

“Umno regards Ku Li to have acted in his personal capacity, and not in the party’s capacity,” the source said.

Previously, former de facto law minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz had reportedly said there is no need for Umno to take action against Tengku Razaleigh for colluding with the opposition to topple the PN government.

Nazri said this is because there are not many Umno MPs. - Mkini
