Minimum attendance in division meetings to avoid Covid-19 - Umno sec-gen

The attendance for Umno's Divisional, Women, Youth, and Puteri wing delegate meetings nationwide will be just a quarter of total representatives to fulfill the sufficient quorum rule and to avoid a Covid-19 outbreak.

Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said this decision on meeting attendance was to adhere to legal requirements set by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) on the minimum amount of delegates required to attend.

“I have issued the instructions after the recent Umno Supreme Working Council (MKT) meeting so that the four levels of divisional meetings (Division, Wanita, Youth, and Puteri wings) are only attended by a quarter of the members who should be present.

“They consist of the committee members at four levels, 10 delegates from each division, and if possible the branch heads as well. Divisions are also allowed to use virtual applications for delegates who are not present to listen to speeches at home," he said when contacted by Bernama today.

Ahmad said the meetings would be held simultaneously across 191 divisions involving about 764 meetings, which is four meetings per division.

Apart from that, Ahmad, who is also the Pontian MP, said the four stages of division meetings were also allowed to be held virtually for red zone areas, especially those under conditional and enhanced movement control orders.

Despite using digital methods, the divisional committee members across all four levels should be present physically. The rest can gather at places that are not too crowded to watch the proceedings virtually.

"In green zone areas, which have met the one-quarter attendance condition, the divisional heads can use applications such as Facebook Live so that speeches are heard by many parties," he said.
