'Only Kedah opposition seats will be negotiated between PAS, Umno, Bersatu'

The only seat negotiations in Kedah between PAS, Umno, and Bersatu will be on opposition seats, said Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Noor.

He reiterated that there will be no clashes between the three parties in the next general election because they have all agreed to defend their current seats.

"The places that Pakatan Harapan won will be negotiated. Where we did not clash, there is no need to negotiate," he told reporters when met at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Umno and Bersatu are on a collision course, with the former set to debate a motion on whether to sever ties with the latter at its general assembly on Jan 31.

Several state Umno chapters, Perak, Pahang, and Terengganu, also want Bersatu out of the state and plan to retake seats whose representatives had defected from Umno to Bersatu.

However, Sanusi claimed that all is well between Umno, Bersatu and PAS in Kedah.

"Everything is ok," he said.

PAS is allied to both Umno and Bersatu.

If the two Malay parties part ways, this would put the Islamist party on the spot on who to side with.

For now, PAS' official stance is to remain neutral.

However, it has grown closer to Bersatu after joining the federal government last March and is now a member of the latter's Perikatan Nasional coalition. - Mkini
