PN assigns state chiefs - Azmin for Selangor, PAS for four others

Perikatan Nasional (PN) has assigned 14 heads of the coalition's chapters in states and territories.

This is a significant move by PN because traditionally, the state head of a coalition typically represents its nominee for menteri besar or chief minister. Some of those assigned are already holding the top state post.

Bersatu figures will head the coalition in 10 states or territories while PAS will lead four.

Bersatu

  • Johor - Muhyiddin Yassin
  • Selangor - Azmin Ali
  • Perak - Ahmad Faizal Azumu
  • Sabah - Hajiji Noor (chief minister)
  • Pahang - Saifuddin Abdullah
  • Negeri Sembilan - Eddin Syazlee Shith
  • Penang - Shabudin Yahaya
  • Malacca - Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen
  • Sarawak - Jaziri Alkaf Abdillah Suffian
  • Federal Territories - Muhammad Suhaimi Yahya

PAS

  • Terengganu - Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (menteri besar)
  • Kelantan - Ahmad Yakob (menteri besar)
  • Kedah - Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor (menteri besar)
  • Perlis - Mohd Shukri Ramli

PN is a coalition between Bersatu, PAS, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku Rakyat Sabah (Star) and Sabah Progressive Party (Sapp).

This is not to be confused with the PN government presidential council, which comprises BN component parties, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Coincidentally, the announcement of the new PN leaders for the coalition's state and territory chapters followed a reaffirmation by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that his party will not give way to Bersatu for 16 parliamentary seats.

Moreover, it is now clear that virtually every Umno division - 189 out of 191 - are against cooperating with Bersatu in the upcoming general election.

As for PAS, it is facing pressure to ditch Bersatu and PN in favour of the Muafakat Nasional pact it has with Umno.

However, PAS has been steadfast in being part of the PN coalition while maintaining the Muafakat pact. - Mkini
