KOTA KINABALU: More people in Sabah have become nonchalant about Covid-19 prevention rules, state minister Masidi Manjun said today.
He said the apparent lack of compliance with health regulations had contributed to the rising number of cases in Sabah.
“The rate of compliance has dropped to 95.75% (compared with 96% yesterday). We have become a bit more relaxed. We must not assume we are back to normal,” he said.
He said the bulk of complaints received by the authorities had centred on the people’s nonchalant attitude towards SOPs.
Masidi said more than 63%, or 255 cases, of the 401 infections recorded in Sabah in the past 24 hours had involved community transmissions.
On another matter, Masidi said Sabah has no plans to impose mandatory quarantine on teachers coming in from the peninsula, Sarawak and Labuan.
“In Sabah, the SOPs is that if they have done a swab test, and the result is negative then it is okay.”
However the state government would modify the rules if the need arises. “We’ll see how it goes, if there is a need to do it we will act accordingly,” he said.
Yesterday, Sarawak announced that all teachers from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Labuan must undergo mandatory quarantine at designated quarantine centres upon entering Sarawak. - FMT
