The annual Umno general assembly, which was scheduled for Jan 30 and 31, has been postponed indefinitely due to the movement control order (MCO).
Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan confirmed this in a statement today.
"The new date will be announced later on," he said.
He added that party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had also agreed for the Umno leadership election to be held at all levels at a suitable date in 2021.
"Meanwhile, all Umno members are reminded to always close ranks and focus on issues that defend and uplift the rakyat in such a challenging situation," Ahmad Maslan said.
This is the second time the Umno general assembly 2020 has been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was initially supposed to be held on Dec 6 and 7.
Umno is expected to decide on several crucial motions in this forthcoming general assembly, including one on whether to withdraw support for its ally Bersatu in the Perikatan Nasional government.
There are also motions calling for a snap election by the end of March this year and another on strengthening relations with PAS in Muafakat Nasional.
According to the Umno constitution, the general assembly must be held within 18 months of the last meeting.
