Lim wants action against minister over SOP 'violation', threatens police report

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has demanded stern action be taken against Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa for allegedly breaching group dining rules under the movement control order (MCO).

He also called on Annuar to issue an apology for the alleged violation of MCO standard operating procedures (SOPs).

"I give him 24 hours to apologise for his actions.

"If there is no response from him on the matter, I will lodge a police report and pressure for action to be taken against him," Lim said in a statement today.

The DAP lawmaker pointed out that this was not the first time Annuar was accused of breaking the SOPs, after the latter previously shared a photograph of himself on an evening jog with two others, at a time when group outdoor activities of more than two persons were forbidden.

"Strangely enough, no actions were taken against him because the group was said to have met by coincidence," Lim said, stressing that it goes against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's statement on no double standards in enforcing Covid-19 protocols.

In the latest controversy, Annuar was photographed dining with six others, seated at two tables.

A banner welcoming Annuar to an urban farming programme dated yesterday could also be seen in the picture.

On behalf of the organisers, Sungai Midah Flood Reservoir Environment Club president Zainuddin Amran apologised for their failure to comply with the SOPs and getting Annuar into trouble.

"On behalf of the residents here, I apologise to Tan Sri (Annuar) and to Malaysians, we admit that was our mistake.

"When Tan Sri came, we invited him to have a quick drink at our urban farming hut.

"He reminded us this could go viral, and that's why he quickly left," Zainuddin told Malaysiakini.

Zainuddin added that he was contacted by the police to have his statement recorded on the incident.

Under the SOP, group dining is currently permitted but limited to only two persons per table.

In a Facebook post, Annuar yesterday confirmed he only sat down for a quick drink before leaving.

"Earlier at the farm, I only sat down for a while and then I left, because the organiser did not comply with SOPs.

"It wasn't that I didn't appreciate their offer, but they still need to follow SOP. I apologise and I hope no one will be slighted," he said. - Mkini
