The people must continue to wear mask and adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) even after they have received Covid-19 vaccine, said Coordinating Minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Khairy Jamaluddin.
This is because the government has not gathered enough data to make a relevant decision, he added.
"It is not because we are not confident with the vaccine; we simply do not have enough data yet," he told a press conference at MASkargo after receiving the first batch of 200 litres Sinovac vaccine today.
"We must maintain all the SOPs, including people who have been vaccinated," he said.
"So, even if you are vaccinated and the person next to you is vaccinated, wear your mask," he said.
As of 7am today, a total of 1,183,779 people have registered themselves for vaccination via MySejahtera and a total of 3,580 have received the Covid-19 vaccine.
Malaysia plans to achieve herd immunity in a year's time.
The country implemented the mandatory face mask ruling in August 2020 to stem the tide of Covid-19 pandemic.
The ruling is targeted at crowded public places such as markets, cinemas, tourist spots and public transport. - Mkini
