KUALA LUMPUR: The Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in Sarawak, scheduled to end on March 1, has been extended for another two weeks.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the extension would be from March 2 to 15.

"Based on risk assessments by the Health Ministry, there is still an increase in cases in the state, with 2,623 cases recorded in 14 days, from Feb 12 to 25.

"Hence, the government has agreed to extend the CMCO in the state," he said in a statement today.

Also extended is the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) at the Batu Gajah correctional centre and staff quarters in Batu Gajah, Perak.

The centre was first placed under EMCO on Feb 14 and scheduled to end tomorrow (Feb 27).

"To date, 761 screening tests were conducted, with 433 testing positive involving this locality.

"The Health Ministry has confirmed that there was a sharp increase in cases in this locality, with 13 new cases recorded yesterday.

"Hence, the government has agreed to extend the EMCO in the locality starting Feb 28 to March 13."

In the same statement, Ismail Sabri said Kampung Sinsingon and Kampung Lotong in Nabawan, Sabah will be placed under EMCO starting Feb 27 to March 12.

He said to date 42 positive cases were recorded in the two localities.

He added the EMCO was to enable the Health Ministry to conduct targeted screening on the residents and prevent further infection in the community.

Also to be placed under EMCO starting Feb 27 to March 12, Ismail Sabri said is the Sentosa Timur Fasa 2 settlement in Sibu, Sarawak.

"To date, 59 positive cases were recorded at the settlement.

"Hence, the EMCO will enable the Health Ministry to conduct targeted screening on 2,500 residents and prevent further infection in the community." - NST
