Kelantan Umno has called for a probe on a book highlighting 30 reasons that Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should resign.
Its chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said the move was necessary to uncover the mastermind behind the publication and distribution of the book titled 30 Dalil Mengapa Ahmad Zahid Perlu Letak Jawatan Presiden Umno.
"It is baseless propaganda, and for party members, we must be rational in this matter.
"The distributor and mastermind behind this should be investigated because it is clearly an attempt to divide Umno," the Machang MP said today after a back-to-school programme by Tenaga Nasional Bhd in Kota Bharu.
Jazlan (above) said this when asked to comment on the book that targeted Ahmad Zahid, ahead of the party's annual general assembly next month.
It was previously reported that the book has been circulating among Umno members, either in print or digital format, since last month.
Issues raised include Zahid's string of ongoing court cases, Umno's failures since he reclaimed the president's post, and the defection of Umno MPs.
Also included as a "reason" were claims that Zahid is forging cooperation with the DAP.
To counter the claims, another book has been published in defence of the Bagan Datuk MP.
Jazlan, however, said such attempts to bring down a leader should not have happened as Umno is a democratic party.
"In Malaysia, Umno is the most democratic party among all others. We have an election to select our leaders, and that is where we can decide.
"There is no need for attempts to bring down a leader before party elections," he added.
Jazlan said Umno has remained strong and relevant with an unwavering foundation, although faced with slight problems due to the public's loss of confidence in the last 14th general election.
"That's why Umno remains to be the single party with the most number of seats, and to this day, we are confident the people can observe and judge that Umno is the best party to be given another chance to lead the country," he said.
Amid strained ties between Umno and Bersatu, Jazlan has openly declared his withdrawal of support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also Bersatu president.
He also supports the call that the 15th general be held as soon as the Covid-19 pandemic is under control. - Mkini
