Penang police conduct house-to-house checks to ensure SOP compliance on eve of CNY

GEORGE TOWN: Police conducted house-to-house checks at the Batu Lanchang and Jelutong area to ensure standard operating procedures (SOP) for the reunion dinner on the eve of Chinese New Year are complied.

George Town deputy OCPD Supt V. Saravanan said during the checks, police found that the residents here were complying with the SOP during the movement control order.

"So far, we don't have any problems, residents are complying with the SOP that has been imposed by the government," he told reporters on Thursday (Feb 11).

Supt Saravanan said in the district, 17 teams of police personnel comprising 74 personnel including 10 officers were assigned to monitor the SOP compliance during the period.

He said the 17 teams will check about 40 houses during the eve of Chinese New Year in the district.

He added that police personnel will be deployed in the area until Feb 14 to ensure Chinese New Year SOP is complied.

A resident, Yeoh Suan Eng, 61, said she was glad that police conducted house-to-house checks during the eve of Chinese New Year and appreciated their efforts to protect the public from Covid-19.

"We appreciate their efforts, and we must follow the SOP," she said.

She said this year, her family reunion dinner will only be with her husband, son and his wife, as well as two grandchildren. Her daughter could not join as she lives in another district. - Star
