KOTA KINABALU: A family has come under fire online after sharing their Chinese New Year reunion dinner online.
The seemingly innocent post landed the family in hot water after social media users noticed turtle eggs as part of the menu.
Possession and consumption of turtle eggs are illegal in Sabah.
The reunion dinner, which featured an array of seafood on banana leaves among other dishes, is believed to have taken place in Beluran.
The Facebook post was first shared by a former assemblyman’s son and has since been removed.
However, the photos have reemerged on the 1StopBorneo Wildlife Facebook page with many people online calling for action to be taken against the family.
Sabah Wildlife Department director Augustine Tuuga said he had seen the viral photos but has not received any report of the incident yet.
