Umno division in Perak bans cooperation with PPBM

The Bukit Gantang Umno division said it was in the dark over a meeting called by Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz of PPBM.

IPOH: The Umno division in Bukit Gantang has barred its members from cooperating with PPBM after the local MP, an Umno member who defected to PPBM, had invited women’s wing leaders to a meeting.

Umno and PPBM are coalition partners in the Perak state government but the relationship between the two parties remains wobbly following a series of spats.

The division’s secretary, Mohd Saaidin Yusof, said members were also prohibited from any form of cooperation with PPBM splinter party Pejuang, or with opposition parties PKR and DAP.

However nothing was mentioned about working with Amanah, a Pakatan Harapan component.

It is understood that the ban was called for after Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal had invited the division’s Wanita leaders for a meeting.

The division said it was in the dark over the meeting, scheduled for tomorrow, and deemed it as going against the party’s hierarchy.

Saadin said the letter was issued as a formality to make clear the party’s stand. He said a majority of the members, especially at the grassroot level, were unsure about the division’s relationship with PPBM.

Umno was to have made a decision on its relationship with PPBM at its annual general assembly initially scheduled for Jan 30-31, which has since been postponed.

This came in the wake of reports of a widening rift between notable party leaders over Umno’s continued support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

Most of the 191 party divisions called for Umno to withdraw its cooperation with PPBM.

A decision at the AGM to withdraw support for PPBM would lead to the collapse of the PN government. - FMT
