Covid-19 outbreak at university's residences in Sabah, lockdown imposed

COVID-19 | The government has put three residential colleges at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in Kota Kinabalu on lockdown following a Covid-19 outbreak.

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob (above) said following the Health Ministry's briefing and consultation with various agencies, the government decided to impose an enhanced movement control order (MCO) on the three residential colleges.

The residential colleges under the enhanced MCO are KK Tun Mustapha, KK Tun Fuad and KK Tun Pengiran Ahmad Rafae.

Ismail said to date, 133 people have been screened and 19 had the virus.

"The Health Ministry confirmed that Covid-19 had spread among the inhabitants of the three residential colleges and the infectivity rate is high," he added.

Ismail said the enhanced MCO will come into force on April 5 and will last until April 18.

"The enhanced MCO is to ensure the movement of residents can be controlled to avoid Covid-19 from spreading out of the residential colleges into the community," he said.
