Frustrated with the recent hike in the price of fresh chicken meat, Pakatan Harapan Youth today suggested that the government adopt a mechanism introduced by its predecessor to control prices.
Its chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin said during Harapan's time in power, the deputy prime minister was in charge of the National Action Council on Cost of Living, which coordinated related ministries to ensure the Festive Season Price Control Scheme was enforced.
"If this #KerajaanGagal is really dry of new ideas, they can copy the mechanism that was used when Harapan was the government.
"(There's) no problem with that," he said in a statement.
#KerajaanGagal (failed government) is a hashtag that was trending on Twitter today, where Malaysians vented over the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government's alleged incompetence on several matters, ranging from the Covid-19 situation to the economy.
According to Shazni, the price of fresh chicken meat had increased between 50 cents and RM1.50 per kilogram in several states since the start of the fasting month earlier this week.
He claimed that this was caused by some suppliers and wholesalers taking advantage of the festive season to increase their prices.
In turn, it allegedly forced sellers to market the meat at between RM9.50 and RM10 per kilogram.
"This is very worrying as the price increase is very significant compared to previous years.
"The minister and deputy minister who are still sleeping and have taken no proactive measures (to address this matter) prove that this is a failed cabinet and government, and they do not care for the people's wellbeing," Shazni said. - Mkini
