Leaked audio: Azmin confident it's authentic, calls it Anwar's biggest betrayal

Perikatan Nasional (PN) information chief Azmin Ali is confident of the authenticity of the leaked audio recording allegedly between PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Azmin (above) said he came to that conclusion based on his long experience serving with Anwar in PKR.

The international trade and industries minister claimed that Anwar has not only betrayed PKR but also the other component parties in Pakatan Harapan.

“We hope these two individuals (Anwar and Zahid) can be honest, at least to their own party members.

“I see this as the biggest betrayal by Anwar, not just to his own party but also to the Harapan component members for secretly holding negotiations and discussions.

“As an officer who served with him for so long and as his former private secretary, I am confident that is an authentic recording which will be proven through the investigation,” he said.

The Gombak MP then urged for an investigation to be carried out on this matter immediately.

Azmin was speaking after attending a programme at Masjid Gombak Utara in Gombak today.

The event was also attended by Gombak Setia assemblyperson and Azmin’s political secretary Muhammad Hilman Idham.

Previously, Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin also stated that she is confident the recording contained Anwar’s voice, based on her 20 years of experience in PKR.

Azmin was formerly PKR deputy president whereas Zuraida was formerly the party’s vice-president before both of them left the party to form the PN coalition in February 2020.

The audio which went viral a few days ago featured a conversation between two people who sounded like Anwar and Zahid.

The voices spoke to each other about the Umno general assembly as well as the Bagan Datuk MP’s speech during the assembly.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

Both Anwar and Zahid have since denied the authenticity of the audio recording.

Anwar yesterday also questioned whether he would have committed any crime if the recording was real.

When asked about Harapan’s decision to send a memorandum to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to urge for the reopening of Parliament, Azmin said the PN government has acted in line with the constitution when it came to the emergency proclamation.

“We have never acted outside the constitution and the law. In fact, any action or decision taken is in line with the constitution and the country’s laws and for the sake of the rakyat and the country,” he said.

Harapan had said previously they are collecting the signatures of all parliamentarians who support the reopening of the Parliament through a memorandum to be presented to the Agong. - Mkini
