Popular actress Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor and her family members were fined a total of RM60,000 for various Covid-19 protocol breaches.
Neelofa was fined RM20,000 for committing two offences - first, not maintaining physical distance during her wedding ceremony. Second, for breaching conditions set in the written permission for her to cross state borders.
Her husband Muhammad Haris Mohd Ismail was fined RM10,000 for the second offence.
Twenty of Neelofa's family members were fined RM1,500 each for failing to maintain physical distance at the wedding.
Dang Wangi district police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the fines were handed out today after they received the investigation papers back from the Attorney-General's Chambers.
"We would like to advise the public to comply with conditional movement control order (MCO) rules.
"Failure to comply can result in the law being applied," said Zainal.
Neelofa and Haris wed at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on March 27.
When photographs of the event began circulating, netizens were up in arms over the lack of physical distancing.
A week later, Neelofa and Haris courted controversy again as they were accused by netizens of crossing state borders for a honeymoon in Langkawi.
Neelofa had posted photographs of her and Haris on a jet ski, riding a cable car and watching the sunset together.
Bubble tea chain Chatime waded into the controversy by claiming that Neelofa and Haris were in Langkawi, Sungai Petani and Kangar to oversee the opening of the company's new outlets.
Neelofa previously apologised over the two incidents.
Taking to Twitter today, the celebrity said she has been informed of the compound imposed on her and her husband.
"I accept it with an open heart and (I) take the compound as a lesson in the use of cross-state permission for the purpose agreed by the authorities," she said.
The compound, she added, would serve as a reminder to her on the importance of adhering to standard operating procedures. - Mkini
