PKR Youth: Azmin losing grip on sanity in accusing Anwar of treachery

In a withering salvo, PKR Youth vice-chief Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman said the party's former deputy president Azmin Ali appeared less sane when he tried to link PKR president Anwar Ibrahim to stories of betrayal.

This was as the Gombak MP is believed to be behind the political coup that ousted Pakatan Harapan from Putrajaya in February last year, he added.

"It seems so awkward because the whole world knows Azmin as the originator of the Sheraton Move that eventually betrayed the Harapan government.

"Azmin's name will be engraved in history as a 'modern Si Kitol' and those like him will remain hated by society," claimed Syed Badli in a statement today.

According to The Sejarah Melayu (Malay Annals), Si Kitol and Raja Mendeliar were treacherous individuals in 16th century Malacca, who undermined the sultanate and left it vulnerable to the invading Portuguese colonial powers.

Yesterday, Azmin said he was confident of the veracity of the leaked audio recording allegedly between Anwar and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The international trade and industries minister claimed that Anwar did not only betray PKR but also the other Harapan component parties.

“We hope these two individuals can be honest, at least to their own party members.

“I see this as the biggest betrayal by Anwar, not just to his own party but also to the Harapan component members for secretly holding negotiations and discussions.

“As an officer who served with him for so long and as his former private secretary, I am confident that is a legitimate recording which will be proven through the investigation,” Azmin said.

Syed Badli asked Azmin to reflect on his own actions, saying that the release of the viral audio recording was intended to distract from the failings of the ruling Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

"As one of the failed ministers, Azmin should reflect on himself and withdraw from politics.

"In conjunction with the arrival of the glorious month of Ramadan, I pray for Azmin to repent," he said.

Ironically, it was Anwar who had referenced Si Kitol in a speech at the PKR congress in December 2019 that led to a walkout by Azmin and his supporters, foreshadowing the schism that was to bring down the Harapan government.

The recent audio recording, which went viral a few days ago, featured a conversation between two persons whose voices resembled that of Anwar and Zahid.

The voices spoke about the Umno annual general assembly as well as the Bagan Datuk MP’s speech during the assembly.

Anwar and Zahid have since denied the authenticity of the audio recording, with the Port Dickson MP also questioning whether he would have committed any crime if the recording is real.  - Mkini
