PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is set to speak to MIC’s delegates at its AGM tomorrow, in an address which is likely to muddy the political waters in the country even more.
Speaking to FMT, MIC vice-president C Sivarraajh confirmed that Muhyiddin, the Perikatan Nasional chairman, is scheduled to deliver the speech, which will be televised to delegates at the Wyndham Acmar Hotel in Klang.
Muhyiddin’s address will come a week after Barisan Nasional’s main component party Umno decided to cut ties with PPBM, which Muhyiddin heads.
Over the last week, MIC has been critical of Umno over its president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s promise to strengthen shariah in the country, an arbitrary decision asking BN leaders to quit the Cabinet, and over the party’s wish to take back the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat, which has traditionally been contested by MIC.
It is learnt that Zahid will also address the delegates virtually.
While he did not specify who
This year’s hybrid MIC convention is a mix of face-to-face and virtual attendees, with Bernama estimating that there were 400 delegates present in the hall and 400 delegates online during the MIC Youth, Wanita, Putera and Puteri convention held earlier today.
Branch elections are expected to run from April 5 to May 5 while the election for party president is expected to be held in June.
The election for other top party posts will be held at a later date, said Vigneswaran during a press conference last month. - FMT
