Police expect to wrap up their investigation soon into an incident where a Foodpanda delivery rider was allegedly assaulted by the owner of a restaurant in Kota Damansara, Selangor.
According to Petaling Jaya district deputy police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood, they have recorded statements from both parties involved in the incident.
"The case is still under investigation. We have received an order to investigate from the deputy public prosecutor.
"Statements from both sides have been taken and we are calling up several more witnesses before wrapping up the investigation and forwarding it to the deputy public prosecutor," he told Malaysiakini.
No arrests have been made as yet, he added.
Earlier this week, a video went viral on social media showing an altercation between the Foodpanda delivery rider and several people at a restaurant.
One man, said to be the restaurant owner, had slapped the rider.
According to a statement issued by police on Tuesday, the victim said the argument was over late food delivery which resulted in several customers cancelling their online order.
Several media reports and viral Facebook posts claimed that the delivery rider was also a person with different abilities (OKU).
Police said they were investigating the case under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt which carries a punishment of a maximum one-year jail sentence or a RM2,000 fine or both. - Mkini
