Selangor govt ready to cooperate in Ladang Tennamaram probe

The Selangor government is ready to cooperate in an ongoing probe linked to corruption allegations over a lease given to two private companies for works conducted at Ladang Tennamaram, Tanjung Karang.

Bukit Melawati assemblyperson, Juwairiya Zulkifli, who is also political secretary to Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, said actions will be taken if the allegations raised by some 100 settlers during a protest on Wednesday were found to be true.

"In line with principles of accountability and transparency, the Selangor administration will not compromise on any elements of corruption or abuse of power at all levels.

"Therefore, the state government is ready and will cooperate fully with the authorities," she said in a statement, adding that no wrongdoers will be protected in any way.

Aside from the investigating authorities, Juwairiya (above) said Selangor Land and Mineral office is also conducting an internal review on the matter.

The group of settlers from Ladang Tennamaram claimed that the Pakatan Harapan-led state administration did not hold any discussion before giving the lease to the 800-acre land area which they had settled in and worked on for the past 40 years.

They were joined by Tanjung Karang MP Noh Omar and Deputy Federal Territories Minister Edmund Santhara, who expressed concerns over the lease given by the Selangor state government.

According to the politicians in their speeches to the crowd and media members, the state had allegedly given a 21-year lease to two newly set-up private companies to conduct agricultural work.

Noh claimed the companies were set up in July 2018, only two months before they were given the lease by the state government.

The settlers had lodged a report with the MACC and Noh said he would assist them to follow up on the probe. - Mkini
