Kerajaan akan pastikan pemborong, peniaga naikkan harga sewenangnya dibanteras, kata Muhyiddin

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the kingdom's decision to implement the Celebration Season Maximum Price Scheme which began on April 21 was one of the steps to block the increase in prices for food items during the fasting month and ahead of Aidilfitri.

PUTRAJAYA: The Kingdom will ensure unethical activities by a number of contractors or salespeople to increase the price of arbitrary goods during the month of Ramadan and Aidilfitri is attacked more thoroughly and impressively.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said he wanted to see the Ministry of Domestic Trade and User Affairs (KPDNHEP) and related royal agencies side by side to take proactive steps such as continuous monitoring and strengthening in dealing with the issue of rising prices for goods.

"The increase in the price of goods is of course a burden to users, especially the low-income groups, small traders and hawkers," he said during the visit and the assembly to deliver the mandate to KPDNHEP staff.

In the meantime, Muhyiddin said, the kingdom was aware of the actions of a number of contractors or salesmen who took the opportunity to increase the price of food items for certain seasons.

He said, the royal decision through KPDNHEP to implement the Celebration Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) starting last April 21 was one of the steps to block the increase in prices for food items during the fasting month and ahead of Aidilfitri.

"Since recently we have heard a lot of complaints from the people regarding the increase in prices for necessities, especially when the month of Ramadan is coming and later when the festive season begins.

"The people are called upon to play an active role in transmitting the edicts to the kingdom," he said.

Based on the notis of the price received by the merchant, the 10 types of food that are escorted are live chicken, standard chicken, super chicken, gred A, B and C chicken eggs, local beef, imported (India) buffalo meat, mackerel, including mabung fish, as well as skating fish.

On April 20, the Minister of Home Affairs and User Affairs, Alexander Nanta Linggi, admitted that the increase in chicken prices was due to the increase in the cost of imported chicken food.

Following that, KPDNHEP held several engagement sessions with the owners of the largest chicken farm in the country to allow standard chicken pricing to take place.

As a result, the standard chicken price was set at RM7.90 below the 2021 SHMMP Hari Raya Puasa, which started last Wednesday until May 20, compared to RM7.50 at the 2020 SHMMP Hari Raya Puasa. - FMT
