Disabled people, one accompanying person to get free RapidKL rides until Dec 12

 

DISABLED people and one accompanying person will be able to get free rides on Rapid KL rail and Bus Rapid Transit services until Dec 12.

The fee waiver is applicable for travel on the LRT, MRT, Monorail and BRT- Sunway Line.

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah made the announcement at a simple ceremony to celebrate the International Day for Persons with Disabilities at the Bangsar LRT station in the presence of OKU Sentral president Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Rasdi.

Azharuddin also presented five canes for the blind and wheelchairs to OKU Sentral as a symbolic gesture of goodwill.

He said the company would announce job openings for the disabled in the first quarter of next year, in line with the government’s policy of 1% job opportunities for the disabled.

“We will not stop there. We will work with associations for the disabled and relevant bodies to look into more ways to empower the disabled community,” he said.

Ras Adiba said she welcomed the prompt effort by Prasarana in creating job opportunities for the disabled.

“I hope disabled people will not be discriminated for their disability but be given equal opportunities and remuneration in the work environment,” she said.

Ras Adiba also said she hoped Prasarana would extend their services to more areas for the convenience of more disabled persons.

“I also hope the service staff will be trained to cater to disabled people and their different disabilities, to understand their needs better.

“With better service, more disabled people will be comfortable and confident to use the services to move around,” added Ras Adiba. - Star
