Najib Abdul Razak was seen present on video conferencing app Zoom during the online hearing of the former prime minister’s application to adduce new evidence in his RM42 million SRC International corruption appeal.
Dressed in a cream-coloured suit, he was seen in the Zoom proceedings streamed live to the media at the Palace of Justice today. The proceedings began at 12.30pm.
Earlier this morning, Najib was absent from the physical proceedings before the three-person Court of Appeal bench chaired by Abdul Karim Abdul Jalil.
An incensed Abdul Karim, on behalf of the panel, then issued a warning for the former premier to attend the Zoom proceedings at 12.30pm, on the risk of revocation of bail and arrest if he did not attend.
Today’s Zoom proceeding was a hearing of Najib’s application to adduce fresh evidence that could strengthen his case in his appeal against his conviction and sentencing in the SRC case.
Najib was seen following the Zoom proceedings, with his lead counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah and deputy public prosecutor submitting, and as the bench looked on.
The other members of the panel include Has Zanah Mehat and Abdul Vazeer Mydin Meera.
The application came within days of tomorrow’s scheduled verdict in Najib’s appeal to quash his guilty verdict as well as a 12-year jail term and RM210 million fine in the SRC case.
On July 28 last year, the Kuala Lumpur High Court delivered the verdict following the trial of seven charges of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering involving RM42 million of funds from SRC. - Mkini
