Pejuang has no intention to cooperate or form a political pact with other parties until knowing for sure they are genuine in combatting corruption, said party chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"At this moment, we have no intention to form any coalition. We are on our own," he told a press conference today.
He was asked if Pejuang, a splinter party of Bersatu, planned to cooperate with any other opposition parties, including PKR and DAP.
"We are keeping it to ourselves. We will not name a partner or whatever electoral pact with anybody until we know what their stand is.
"If they subscribe to our objective of getting rid of corruption, we will be able to work with them," Mahathir said.
Pejuang risks losing its popularity among supporters if it chooses the wrong partner, he stressed.
"We would need to work with other parties after the election. We may consider working with them then. The main principle is that they must not be corrupt," he added.
Meanwhile, he said the 15th general election may see the people being led by corrupt individuals if they vote for them.
"If voters are bribed and they then choose to support those who bribed them, then we will have a bad government.
"That government will not allow any good government to come up. The future government after that will only be made up of people that the corrupt government allows to go through," he said.
If given a chance in the next general election, Mahathir said Pejuang's priority is to get rid of kleptocrats in Malaysia. - Mkini
