AEON collaborates with Grab for e-wallet option

AEON CO (M) Bhd is promoting cashless payments by working with Grab Malaysia to offer GrabPay e-wallet as an option in its supermarkets.

PETALING JAYA: With a surge in demand for cashless payments accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic, businesses have been adapting to a variety of methods to meet the needs of people.

General merchandise store AEON CO (M) Bhd is one example of a brand that has pivoted to adopting cashless payments by collaborating with Grab Malaysia to offer GrabPay e-wallet as an option in its supermarkets.

AEON chief financial officer Grace Lee said offering GrabPay as a payment method would provide greater convenience to shoppers while enabling bigger savings as they shop.

She said the collaboration would also allow the brand to tap into the growing number of tech-savvy customers who prefer digital and contactless shopping.

“We always strive to add value to our services. We have a clear direction to move forward and we will endeavour to expand the ‘new retail’ ecosystem that is demand-based and more attuned to market dynamics, consumption patterns and customer behaviour.

“Technology, digitalisation and innovation will be game changers for AEON as we propel into our digital transformation journey,” Lee said.

The collaboration is in line with AEON’s efforts to champion the UN Sustainable Development Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8).

“The goal promotes continuity, inclusivity and sustainable economic growth, and provides suitable employment for all,” she said.

“This partnership also reflects our commitment to leverage our innovative and inclusive solutions to serve the digital financial needs of our consumers. With our features like GrabRewards, AEON shoppers can enjoy savings with every transaction that is protected by our multiple safety and security measures,” she said.

In conjunction with Chinese New Year, shoppers who use GrabPay at AEON will enjoy a rebate of RM8 with a minimum purchase of RM88.

AEON shoppers will get up to 1.8% back in savings when they earn GrabRewards for every GrabPay transaction in any AEON outlet.
