PETALING JAYA: Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik has denied allegations of corruption and misappropriation that have been brought against him.
He described the allegations as an attempt at character assassination.
“I vehemently deny this slanderous and false statement that was engineered,” he said in a statement today. “I see this as an attempt to assassinate my character with bad intent (mala fide) by certain parties, ahead of the Johor state elections and my commitment to education issues.
His statement came in the wake of yesterday’s statement by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission that two complaints had been lodged against Maszlee.
He said he welcomed any investigation as he had nothing to hide.
The MACC statement yesterday came with a denial that the agency had attempted to intimidate Maszlee’s staff as he had previously alleged.
MACC said an investigation was necessary after an official complaint was lodged about corruption and misappropriation and was adhering to its standard procedures by interviewing witnesses.
A Malaysiakini report, quoting unnamed sources, said the allegations involved money from a ministry supplier and the use of a Toyota Vellfire.
Maszlee had said he believes that the agency’s actions were related to his support of calls for MACC chief Azam Baki to be investigated over allegations about share dealings. - FMT
