Is The MACC Going After Its Critics?

Sivarasa and Pakatan Harapan claim that this is an act of revenge. Maybe so. But they never once said that Sivarasa’s nephew is innocent and that he did not commit the crime he is alleged to have committed. So, revenge or no revenge does not really matter if he did commit the crime.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

The opposition says the MACC is seeking revenge by going after opposition people — one example being Sungai Buloh MP Sivarasa a/l Rasiah’s nephew.

When the MACC does not pursue corruption cases, the opposition shouts and screams. When the MACC does pursue corruption cases, the opposition also shouts and screams.

The point here is, the opposition wants the MACC to pursue corruption cases only against those who oppose the opposition, but to not touch those who support the opposition.

This was the same when Pakatan Harapan was the federal government for 22 months from May 2018 to February 2020. The MACC and the Attorney General dropped all cases involving opposition people (who were then the federal government) and opened files on government people (who were then the opposition).

That is why people such as Lim Guan Eng, Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, and many more, escaped the long arm of the law even though investigations revealed they had committed crimes and the investigation papers said so.

The opposition shouts and screams about selective prosecution. But then this is also what Pakatan Harapan did when they were in power.

Okay, let us agree with what Pakatan Harapan is saying, which is the MACC is taking revenge on Sivarasa by going after his nephew. The question that we need to ask is: is Sivarasa’s nephew guilty of the crime he is alleged to have committed, did he do what he is said to have done, or is this merely trumped up-charge?

Whether the MACC is taking action against Sivarasa’s nephew to punish Sivarasa is not the crux of the matter. What is would be whether Sivarasa’s nephew did do what he is alleged to have done.

The motive behind what the MACC is doing, which is to take revenge on Sivarasa, cannot be proven. After all, everyone in jail claims he or she is innocent.

Sivarasa and Pakatan Harapan claim that this is an act of revenge. Maybe so. But they never once said that Sivarasa’s nephew is innocent and that he did not commit the crime he is alleged to have committed. So, revenge or no revenge does not really matter if he did commit the crime.
