No further action against Zii Jia, Jin Wei, says BAM

National shuttlers Lee Zii Jia and Goh Jin Wei had been barred from playing in international competitions for two years after resigning from BAM.

PETALING JAYA: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has confirmed that no further action will be taken against national shuttlers Lee Zii Jia and Goh Jin Wei over their move to quit the body.

BAM president Norza Zakaria said both shuttlers were allowed to part ways with the national badminton governing body and still be eligible to register for international tournaments with immediate effect, Bernama reported.

Both players had been barred from playing in international competitions for two years after resigning from BAM.

Jin Wei announced her retirement and quit BAM in September last year before subsequently turning professional, while Zii Jia resigned on Jan 11.Today, Jin Wei received BAM’s “blessings” to pursue her career as an independent shuttler. It was reported earlier that she submitted an appeal letter via email yesterday.

In a Facebook post, Jin Wei thanked Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, BAM, Norza as well as youth and sports minister Ahmad Faizal Azumu for helping to resolve the issue amicably.

She also pledged to continue to promote Malaysian badminton on the international stage.

“I will forever be grateful and thankful for all the support and nurturing provided by Tan Sri Norza, BAM, the coaches and all support staff from the first day I joined.” she said. - FMT
