Tebrau Bersatu head quits party, backs Umno's Hasni as MB

Mazlan Bujang has officially announced his departure from Bersatu and backing for Johor Umno's Hasni Mohammed.

Prior to the dissolution of the Johor legislative assembly, Mazlan was the representative for Puteri Wangsa.

With this departure, the Tebrau Bersatu division is without a leader.

“I support Hasni to be reappointed as the menteri besar.

“This will ensure political stability and a better future for Johor,” said Mazlan.

Mazlan was appointed Johor Bersatu chief in 2019. Seventeen months later, he vacated the position which was taken over by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Mazlan is widely believed to have been enjoyed then Bersatu leader Dr Mahathir Mohamad's favour in the past.

Hasni had appointed Mazlan into his cabinet, which lasted between March 2020 and early this month.

Mazlan claimed that the Tebrau Bersatu division chief secretary and 23 branch leaders are quitting the party as well.

He said he will not be joining any party for now, but he was supportive of BN.

In an immediate reaction, Johor Bersatu elections director Badrul Hisham Shaharin said Mazlan's departure does not affect the party at all.

"Mazlan has not been active within the party. The party has been moving independently in his constituency for a long time.

"In some of Mazlan's events, he seems more comfortable with Umno figures than with Bersatu. Even his brother is an Umno division office bearer," said Badrul Hisham.

He added that the Tebrau Bersatu division was currently being led by Kamaruzzaman Abu, who is the deputy division head. - Mkini
