TOKYO: Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob met top Japanese business leaders in a private business session this morning to further explore their potential interest in Malaysia.

The business leaders were from Mitsubishi Power Ltd, the Japan Malaysia Economic Association (Jameca), Rohm Wako Co Ltd, and Mitsui Fudosan & Co Ltd.

The business leaders updated their operations and activities in Malaysia to Ismail during the meeting.

Mitsubishi Power Ltd president and chief executive officer Hideshi Kawamoto said he updated Ismail on Mitsubishi’s latest high-efficiency gas turbine power solutions.

During the meeting, Jameca proposed that Ismail organise a “Look East Policy” seminar in August this year in Malaysia.

Jameca president Tsuyoshi Nagano told reporters later the association would focus on getting the younger generation of Japanese and Malaysians to enhance bilateral ties.

“I strongly believe the future relationship should be very strong. There are so many things we can do to strengthen the economies of both countries.

“We need to focus on the new generation to create new leaders in the two countries,” said Nagano, who is also Tokio Marine Holdings Inc chairman.

Jameca was established in 1977 to foster friendship and promote close and harmonious economic relations between Japan and Malaysia.

It was also formed to promote greater understanding between the private sectors of Japan and Malaysia regarding the economic policies and situations in both countries.

Ismail witnessed the handing over of a letter approving incentives for Rohm Wako Co Ltd, which has proposed plans to expand its current semiconductor manufacturing facility in Kota Bharu at a cost of almost RM1 billion.

Rohm Wako was represented by its founder and chairman Yosuke Yoshioka and its president, Hirofumi Yoshioka. - FMT
