Total trade for April up 21.3% to RM231.4bil

 

Exports of apparel and clothing accessories increased by 18.5% last month compared with the same period last year.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s total trade for April jumped 21.3% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM231.4 billion.

Exports totalled RM127.5 billion (up 20.7% y-o-y) and imports amounted to RM103.9 billion (up 22.0% y-o-y), according to the department of statistics Malaysia.

For April, exports of apparel and clothing accessories increased by 18.5% to RM499.9 million.

At the state level, Johor recorded the highest exports of articles of apparel and clothing accessories worth RM272.7 million (54.5%), followed by Selangor (RM104.3 million, 20.9%) and Perlis (RM41.0 million, 8.2%).

“Exports in April increased RM21.9 billion (up 20.7%) compared to the same month of the previous year, while imports also increased RM18.7 billion (up 22.0%),” chief statistician Uzir Mahidin said in a statement today.

Among the top five major exporting states, Penang continued to lead with 29.3%, followed by Johor (20%), Selangor (19.5%), Sarawak (8.1%) and Kuala Lumpur (4.3%).

For imports, Selangor remained the largest contributor with 25.6%, followed by Penang (23.4%), Johor (18.3%), Kuala Lumpur (7.3%) and Kedah (5.7%). - FMT
