Tajuddin may contest in GE15 on PAS ticket if fired from Umno

Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said he is willing to consider contesting on a PAS ticket in the upcoming general election if he is kicked out from Umno.

However, the former Umno supreme council said with a laugh that he would not join the Islamist party.

Another option open to him, Tajuddin said, is to contest as an independent who supports Umno.

“It can be considered… It is not a bad idea, but it is not that I want to join PAS.

“But if they (Umno) want to be rough with me, I can be rough by contesting as an independent too. Even when the (political) tsunami happened, (my) support went up. I have never lost,” he said in his press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Perak PAS had yesterday invited Tajuddin to defend his seat in Pasir Salak in the 15th General Election (GE15) under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) ticket after the lawmaker was removed from the Umno supreme council.

The state PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria had implied that Tajuddin might be dropped as a BN candidate in the upcoming general polls.

He had also said it would depend on whether PAS is allocated the Pasir Salak seat in the PN coalition.

“If GE15 happens and Tajuddin is not given a place in BN, then Perak PAS is ready to offer him as a candidate on PN’s ticket, representing PAS,” Razman said.

Today, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan reportedly said Tajuddin could join his party at any time.

“Anyone can join PAS (including Tajuddin). We can and will accept. In fact, in a programme in Kedah recently, about 12,000 new members were registered, including new voters.

“We will see the potential of support available,” Bernama quoted him as saying.

Meanwhile, Tajuddin said he still cares about Umno as he has been with the party for over 50 years.

Umno has helped him a lot in his climb up to his current position, he said.

“I have been with Umno for 50 years, of course, I love it… a marriage of 50 years must be love,” he said.

Asked whether his penchant for being vocal would risk him getting fired from the party, Tajuddin said he is not afraid of being removed from the party.

“I am not afraid of being fired. I have been fired many times,” he said. - Mkini
