Supermarkets, convenience stores, and fast food outlets in Kelantan have been ordered to close on the first day of Hari Raya Aidiladha, which is tomorrow, or face stern action.
The order applies to businesses run by both Muslims and non-Muslims, said Kota Baru Municipal Council Islamic City (MPKB-BRI) secretary Mohd Shaifudeen Md Salleh.
"I would like to confirm that the notice is valid and applies to all, including non-Muslim operators in Kelantan. It was issued by the state government," he was quoted as saying by NST.
The notice said those who fail to comply could have their licenses revoked.
A source at the Kelantan local government exco's office informed Malaysiakini that the directive is not new and has been issued for many years.
However, the state government aims to "reinforce" the shutdown order, the source said.
Previously, it was understood that affected premises would ask for exemptions from having to close operations for a day. - Mkini
