Gambling kickbacks: Company denies involvement in polls funding

RGB International Bhd has denied being involved in any form of election funding using gambling kickbacks, a case that is being investigated by the MACC.

The company was responding to a report that claimed the company’s top executives were arrested by the anti-graft agency.

“The board of directors wishes to clarify that RGB Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the company only does an outright sale of gaming machines and their accessories, and has no involvement or ownership in Malaysia’s slots clubs.

“The company wishes to state that it had not and will not condone any forms of ‘political funding’,” said RGB International in a statement on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE) yesterday.

The company stressed that its directors have no links to any politicians and that they are fully cooperating with the MACC’s investigations.

It also said it adopts a zero-tolerance approach to bribery and corruption and upholds the highest standards of compliance.

“If any parties deviate from the company’s zero-tolerance approach, the company will take necessary action to protect the interest of its shareholders and all relevant stakeholders,” the statement read.

It was reported earlier today that an MACC probe has allegedly found evidence suggesting that gambling funds were used to pay for at least three election campaigns dating back from 2018.

The MACC reportedly discovered that between RM6 to RM7 million in kickbacks were given by gambling companies to several high-profile individuals, including politicians, in exchange for the businesses being issued licenses to operate slot machines.

At least 14 people have been caught in the graftbuster’s dragnet thus far. - Mkini
