Assault victims of Tibetan monk urged to come forward

CHERAS: DAP Youth has urged the victims of a foreign monk who has been accused of rape and sexual assault to come forward.

Its public complaints bureau deputy director, Aw Wai Kit, said he and his colleagues are willing to accompany the victims to the police station to lodge a report.

Aw said the self-proclaimed Tibetan monk had allegedly raped and sexually assaulted more than 100 people since 2017, the majority of them women.

So far, three people have lodged police reports against him.

It was reported that the monk was arrested last week on suspicion of raping a woman in Puchong last August.

At a press conference here today, one of his victims revealed that she had visited the monk’s temple at Jalan Klang Lama, in 2017, to seek help for her sick daughter.

She claimed she found the monk drunk in the temple with a bottle of sake in his hand, and tried to leave immediately, but he had wound his arms around her from behind, kissed her and touched her inappropriately.

The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, managed to escape his grip.

“I didn’t report the incident right away for my own self-interest, but the situation became more serious when I learned that he had over 100 victims. I have to stand up for them,” she said.

“I hope and plead for these victims to come forward. This way, the man will be subjected to the law and deported. I hope he will never be able to hurt anyone in the name of Buddhism ever again.”

The woman also said she was traumatised and could not forget the incident even though it happened more than five years ago.

Aw said a majority of the victims had gone to the monk for help because they were facing problems in life.

“He had used religion against his victims and tried to manipulate them,” he said.

He added that the monk had threatened to “curse” them and told them they would be condemned to hell if they were to expose him and ruin the reputation of the temple. - FMT
