PETALING JAYA: Police investigations into Sunday’s fatal crash along Jalan Kuala Kedah in Alor Setar involving a 14-year-old female driver have led them to discover that she may have been a rape victim.
Kedah police chief Fisol Salleh said the teenager was suspected to have been raped by two men, Bernama reported.
“The teenager confessed to having sexual relations with two men prior to this and police have classified the case as rape as she is a minor.
“One of the men was arrested yesterday, while the other is being tracked down,” he told a press conference here today.
Fisol said the rape case will be investigated together with the accident.
He said police had received more than 140 rape reports involving minors in Kedah this year.
“Upon investigation, many of these cases involved consensual sex, but because the victims are minors, the cases are classified as (statutory) rape.”
In the 7.05pm accident, a woman, Nur Shafiqah Abdullah, 32, was killed and her sister, Nooraliza, 43, was injured.
This happened when a Proton Satria, allegedly driven by the teenager, rammed into the motorcycle they were riding on.
Fisol said a urine test on the teenager came back negative. The girl is now under the care of the social welfare department.
He said police have also called in her mother for questioning. - FMT
