I don’t know of plot to remove Chow, says Kit Siang

GEORGE TOWN: DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang said he is unaware of an alleged plot to unseat party vice-chairman Chow Kon Yeow as the chief minister of Penang.

“I have retired from frontline DAP politics for more than a year, but I must express my surprise that differences of opinion as to how to handle certain issues in Penang DAP have been inflated to a plot to topple Chow Kon Yeow as Penang chief minister.

“I believe I am not (so) retired as to (be) unaware of a plot to topple Chow as the chief minister,” he said in his speech during the launch of the second volume of his memoir, “Lim Kit Siang: Malaysian First”.

Chow had in recent weeks claimed there was an apparent move to oust him, and that people within and outside the party wanted to “defeat” him.

DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng then urged Chow to furnish proof of the alleged plot.

Chow subsequently backtracked on his claim, saying he merely spoke about how things were before the recent state elections.

‘Memoir will refute allegations against me, DAP’

During a question-and-answer session later, Lim expressed hope that his memoir would end the allegations that he was against the Malays and the rulers, as well as an Islamophobe and a communist.

“These are slander and lies that have become a problem in the information era,” he said, adding that his memoir would prove the allegations were false and baseless.

Memoir author Kee Tuan Chye supported Lim, saying the book provided an “alternate history” of the former DAP leader who had been deliberately misunderstood and accused by many as being against the Malays and the rulers.

The former Iskandar Puteri MP also challenged PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to go through the two volumes of his memoir and substantiate or retract his past allegations.

Earlier in April, Lim had challenged Hadi to furnish proof that he had links with the communists.

Lim said he would have been arrested by the home ministry under the security laws when Perikatan Nasional was in power from 2020 to 2022 if Hadi’s allegations were true. - FMT
