System error leads to 30-minute DNAA for Wan Saiful

A system error led to Bersatu lawmaker Wan Saiful Wan Jan being granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) by the courts today.

However, the DNAA was short-lived.

The incident occurred at the start of the court hearing when a computer system malfunction prevented the 18 money laundering charges against Wan Saiful from being read.

This prompted Sessions Court judge Azura Alwi to issue a DNAA so that the case could be transferred to another courtroom.

The temporary acquittal ended 30 minutes later when the charges were read out to Wan Saiful once again, this time before Sessions Court judge Suzana Hussin.

The former Bersatu information chief claimed trial to all the charges.

Speaking to reporters after he was charged, the Tasek Gelugor MP questioned how this could have happened.

“If this was planned properly, carried out properly, then I don’t think there would have been a DNAA before being charged.

“I don’t know of anyone else who was granted a DNAA without being charged,” he said. - Mkini
