Wait for court decision, PAS tells 'Harakah' ex-printers

PAS wants Harakah’s former printers to wait for a court decision on the party's outstanding payment.

This is according to PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man when asked for comments on the printing companies' criticism of the Islamist party for failing to settle its debt.

"This matter is now in court, he should wait for the court to decide," Tuan Ibrahim (above) told Malaysiakini.

Yesterday, NAJ Press Resources (M) Sdn Bhd manager Hussin Jan lambasted PAS for living a "lavish lifestyle" while the companies have still not received outstanding payment years after it was reported that the party’s official mouthpiece fell into debt.

He reportedly said that PAS failed to take up the responsibility to pay Harakah’s debt but the Islamist party and its leadership are allegedly spending large sums of money.

In August 2019, Malaysiakini reported the debt saga involving Harakah and two of its printers at that time - Angkatan Edaran Enterprise Sdn Bhd and NAJ Press Resources.

Angkatan Edaran had been declared bankrupt. However, the same management established NAJ Press Resources as a replacement and continued to print Harakah then.

Harakah’s debt with Angkatan Edaran has reached millions of ringgit compared to its debt with NAJ Resources at just over RM600,000.

Hussin claimed that PAS and Harakah have refused to settle their debts with Angkatan Edaran on the grounds that the company had already shuttered.

He said the company is bearing the burden of debt with its suppliers because Harakah does not want to pay off its debt.

"In this difficult economic situation, we need immediate financial resources as working capital to continue the business.

"PAS leaders claim to follow the Quran, hadith, the ijma of scholars as guidance, but they use secular law and ignore Islamic law because they refuse to pay their debts," he said.

Lawyer Putra Taulan Rasul, who is representing NAJ Resources, reportedly said they had filed a claim against PAS, the party’s secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and Harakah’s publisher Galeri Media Serbanika Sdn Bhd. - Mkini
