Monitoring teachers who don't back govt akin to 'witch-hunt': Muda

Cheras Muda chairperson Daniel Lim has slammed Johor PKR’s suggestion that the Education Ministry form a special committee to monitor teachers who do not support the government.

In a statement today, he said that Malaysia must practise a democratic system in which civil servants are not pressured to give their support to any particular political party.

"It is inappropriate for the Education Ministry or any government agencies to act in what seems like a witch-hunt against civil servants.

"This (forming a committee) would be a waste and could paralyse the existing administrative system," Lim added.

The coalition government, he said, should prove that it is capable of carrying out the tasks entrusted to it, and secure the people's support.

"I hope the Education Ministry does not take the proposal of the Johor PKR representatives seriously and continues to focus and strive for the development and strength of our country's education system,” Lim added.

In making the proposal at yesterday's PKR National Congress 2023, representative Haryati Abu Nasir said there is a worrying trend among civil servants, where some have openly shown that they are against the administration.

She told Malaysiakini later that the proposed committee was to monitor and identify issues that caused the group to oppose the government.

“The committee should serve to monitor, study, and curb this problem. Perhaps there are things we (the government) can improve.

“There are many civil servants who still do not support the government. We hope that civil servants can give their support,” she said. - Mkini
