Palestine Red Crescent: Paramedic shot by Israeli forces in West Bank

Paramedic Sabreen Obeidi was shot in the back during a raid by the Israel Occupation Force in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said.

"This happened when a PRCS ambulance was targeted during a raid by occupation forces in Jenin Refugee Camp," it said on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The PRCS also included a photo of an ambulance with an apparent bullet hole in its back window.

Palestinians are facing growing violence in the West Bank, which is not governed by Hamas.

The West Bank is not physically connected to Gaza, where the Israeli Defence Forces has dropped more than 10,000 bombs since Oct 7.

More than 10,500 people including at least 4,000 children have been killed in Gaza, according to the local health ministry, prompting international calls for a ceasefire.

In the West Bank, at least 163 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since then, while some 2,200 have been injured, according to the Palestinians Health Ministry.

The UN agency in Palestine, UNRWA, also said there has been increased violence by Israeli settlers towards Palestinians since the start of fighting in Israel and Gaza on Oct 7.

Ambulances, humanitarian convoys under attack

This is not the first time PRCS ambulances have been targeted with live ammunition in the West Bank.

In July, the PRCS said four ambulances were targeted with live ammunition by Israeli forces in Jenin, causing material damage to the structure and glass of the ambulances, Al Jazeera reported.

Ambulances and humanitarian convoys have also come under fire in Gaza since Oct 7.

Yesterday, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said its humanitarian convoy was under gunfire in Gaza City.

The ICRC did not identify the source of the gunfire.

“The ICRC reminds the parties of their obligation under the international humanitarian law to respect and protect humanitarian workers at all times," it said.

On Nov 3, an Israeli airstrike on a convoy of ambulances killed 15 people and injured 60, the PRCS said.

The ambulances were transporting casualties from Gaza to the Rafah crossing to Egypt.

One of the ambulances was targeted with a direct missile strike about two metres from Al Shifa Hospital's gate.

The IDF said the ambulance it hit was being used by Hamas fighters and claimed Hamas operatives were among those killed. - Mkini
