We don't want another Kg Medan riot, says Bukit Aman in calling for calm

Bukit Aman urged all quarters, including politicians, to calm down and not incite racial sentiments when discussing the issue of socks with the word "Allah".

Its criminal investigations chief Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said this is because the law has already been enforced.

He also echoed former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin’s remarks, who in his podcast yesterday urged all to stop inflammatory remarks.

"I want to advise everyone to stand down. Enough. I agree with what Khairy said, we (the police force) are already worried over issues unrelated to race but when it involves two different races, this could become a (racial) issue.

"We don't want to see another Kampung Medan (riots) or any other racial incidents in this country. It will only smear our country's image," he said at press conference held at the national police headquarters today.

Yesterday, Khairy, who is also former Umno Youth chief, urged his successor Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh and outraged Muslims to halt their campaign against KK Mart.

Khairy said point has been made that Muslims were hurt over the socks bearing the word “Allah” and there was no need to escalate things further.

“First of all, for Muslims, we need to take a step back. Are we going too far?

“And we have advice for our friend, Akmal, you’ve made your point. In this matter, I don’t blame Akmal. I don’t blame him. That (voicing out) is his job (as Umno Youth chief).

“But it’s time to stand down. Your point has been made. It’s time to stand down and leave it to Muslim consumers whether they want to go to KK Mart or not,” he said during a live episode of his “Keluar Sekejap” podcast yesterday morning.

Meanwhile, Shuhaily assured that his men have stepped up monitoring to ensure no one worsens the already edgy situation.

"Let our judicial system work. That shows the rakyat's maturity."

No red notice for Ganesparan

On another matter, Shuhaily said the police are unable to issue an Interpol Red Notice against Facebook user Ganesparan Nadaraja for inciting racial and religious issues online.

Ganesparan is living abroad, and racial and religious issues are not listed under Article 3 of Interpol's constitution, he added.

According to Shuhaily, a total of 22 investigation papers have been opened against Ganesparan for talking about 3R (race, religion, royalty) related issues in his videos since 2018.

“In fact, the Immigration Department had even cancelled Ganesparan's passport in November 2020.

"We believe the recent viral video was uploaded from abroad. We will update our investigation papers before sending them to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) for further action,” Shuhaily added. - Mkini
