Govt must come clean on ‘supplementary order’, says Umno man

PETALING JAYA: An Umno Supreme Council member has urged the unity government to come clean on the purported “supplementary order” issued by the former king allowing Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence at home.

Kelantan Umno chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said the people deserved to hear the government’s stand and legal explanation on the matter so that any dispute would be put to rest.

He said that if it was true the government had refused to implement the “addendum order”, Putrajaya would be perceived as “manipulating the (former) king’s decree”.

“The government must answer the people over the alleged supplementary order,” Jazlan said in a statement.

Najib had submitted an application on April 1 to compel the government to produce the “supplementary order” purportedly issued by the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

The former prime minister claimed that Sultan Abdullah issued the supplementary decree during the Federal Territories Pardons Board’s (FTPB) meeting on Jan 29, a day before his term ended.

He alleged that the “addendum order” was not announced by the board on Feb 2 and that the government was in contempt for not executing the supplementary decree.

Earlier today, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was reported to have confirmed in an affidavit the existence of the purported order issued on Jan 29. His affidavit was filed in support of Najib’s application.

Zahid, the deputy prime minister, claimed to have viewed a copy of the purported order on Tengku Zafrul Aziz’s mobile phone during a meeting at the former’s house.

On Feb 2, the FTPB halved Najib’s prison sentence in his SRC International case from 12 years to six and reduced his fine from RM210 million to RM50 million.
