PETALING JAYA: Two Malaysian documents have been successfully listed on the Memory of the World regional register for Asia and the Pacific, the highest recognition for manuscripts and documentary heritage.
The two manuscripts are Al-Tarikh Salasilah Negeri Kedah: Genealogical History of Kedah State and the Royal Correspondence of Baginda Omar.
Acceptance of the two documents was announced by the regional register secretary-general Linh Anh Moreau on May 8, the tourism, arts and culture ministry said, Bernama reported.
The ministry said the two manuscripts were listed with 18 other nominations.
Al-Tarikh Salasilah Negeri Kedah: Genealogical History of Kedah State highlights the evolution of historical work by the Kedah sultanate palace writers in the 12th century, while the Royal Correspondence of Baginda Omar is a collection of official and personal documents recording important events in Terengganu’s history.
Malaysia has managed to list nine documents with the Memory of the World programme. Six are on the international register and three on the regional register.
The Memory of the World programme is carried out by Unesco, the UN cultural agency, to enable preservation of the world’s documentary heritage and provide universal access to the documents. - FMT
